AEGEAN One of our oldest and boldest ranges. Designed by Martin many moons ago, 1997/98. It became a best seller for many years. We rarely use moulds at our studio but this range relied heavily on them, not so much for the overall form but to add texture to the outer surface of the glass. The moulds are very crude and gnarly, made of rusted steel affording them a very rugged excavated look, which translates to a tactile texture pleasing to the hand and the eye. The base colours of blue and yellow/amber represent the geology of the area the sea and sands, the patina on the surface is silver leaf with a few splashes of Chilli Red powdered glass, this was added to represent metallurgy, shields, swords, armour, the treasures found and fought for over the centuries. The red represents blood of the myriad of adventurers and armies who populated the mythological region. Martin had written a lovely little poem/prose about all his ranges this one started .. Aegean.. azure seas, shining sands, home to the Argonauts etc etc. Sadly his silly son, moi, thought it a bit wordy and scrapped it. I will dig it all out and start using it! Original design by Martin Evans reproduced by Ed Evans, the silly son.
